Summer Holidays!

Here they are then! The Summer hols are upon us and I bet you're wondering how you're going to fill the next six weeks with fun filled activites for you and your little smashers when it seems that the money tree isn't as blooming as it might have been. Well, I may have the nearest thing to a perfect day out for you and children on a shoestring budget( not surprising that we had an episode of SuperScrimpers film at the Cone then, eh?!)

A day out at the Red House Glass Cone, as a free to visit heritage site, offers you the opportunity to wander around, taking in all the interesting museum artifacts: the World War 2 Exhibition, the Titanic glassware, all the amazing glass both historical and contemporary, and on set days you can watch one of our glass blowers demonstrate how it's done. In addition, Sarah Jones in Studio 7 regularly demonstrates how to make glasswork beads, which is fascinating to watch, whilst Charlotte Hughes-Martin in Studio 6 can be regularly caught engraving something quirky perhaps on a milk bottle! If you're doing the free trail around the site, you'll get to meet a number of us Made@theCone crew; an eclectic bunch of artists and designer makers who are independent studio holders, running workshops and selling original handmade giftware. Keep your eyes peeled for the rubber ducks!

Once you've completed the trail why not play in the Crafts courtyard with our outdoor games, or enjoy a picnic canalside? Perhaps you could treat the children to a scrumptious icecream from our lovely Coffee House, and work your way through their extensive (and very tasty) menu! Whilst you're doing that, or relaxing with a well earned coffee, you can round off the day by bringing the children in to take part in one of my craft activities! At £5 per person, I provide an entertaining, creative and instructive service, in my new studio next to the Coffee House. If you want to have a go yourself, I'm more than happy to see adults taking part (who says that kids should have all the fun?!) All of the sessions are drop in, but if you'd like to do the Clay Day activities on Thursdays, please call me to reserve you a place, as I need to prep the clay for the session.

Mondays: Fabric Fun

Wednesdays: Foam Clay, Decopatch

Thursdays: Clay Day

Fridays: Potters Wheel

Saturdays: Pottery Painting workshop, Pebble painting

Sundays: Family Clay Play
